Moving right along, we’re getting more and more insight into the trials and tribulations of becoming an idol. Notes this week include: 1) Purikura is what Ran said at the beginning, which we changed to photo booth. If you haven’t heard of them, it’s that thing where you take a few pictures, and can then edit them with words, sparkles, or even to change your hair color or eye size. 2) When Ran visits Ichigo’s room, she says いらっしゃいませ! (irasshaimase), generally a greeting reserved for when you enter a restaurant or shop, hence Aoi’s remark. 3) If you don’t know anything about the actual Aikatsu! arcade game, check out the post below. When they talk about “appeal points”, they’re referring to the numbers in the corner of the cards. If you match the cards correctly within the cute, cool, and sexy categories, the points stack and help you win your audition.
Edit: You might notice at about 15.07 a tiny little mistake in the line being said. Please ignore it for now; we’ll fix it for the batch. No plans for a version 2 because it isn’t a mistranslation-type error, just something we forgot to take out.
So as I was looking around for more Aikatsu things, I happened to run across the official Aikatsu! TV Youtube channel. It’s got a few promo vids, a summary of the press conference explaining the game, and, most surprisingly, several endorsements by my favorite AKB48 idol, Itano Tomomi. They even put in a character model for her in the game. It’s kind of interesting if you just can’t wait until the next episode, and it gives a few teasers for outfits, songs, and new modes that’ll be in the anime.
If you want to check out actual gameplay, try niconico here, here, or here.
I hope you all weren’t hoping that there would only be two insert songs, because spoiler alert, this week we finally get a new song, spurred on by the finally appearing third member of the idol group. Enjoy this week’s dose of idols.
Unnecessary note: Towards the end of the episode, a certain character has “-tarou” added to the end of her name. If you didn’t fully understand from context, “tarou” used to be a common part of boy’s names, such as the famous “Momotarou” and “Urashima Tarou”. “Rantarou” itself sounds old-fashioned, prompting the samurai comment. (The ninja comment may be a reference to Nintama Rantarou.)
And now for the long awaited fourth episode of Aikatsu! As you could probably tell by the wonderful title of Oh! My! Fan!, this episode is all about Ichigo’s first fan. I guess they aren’t scared of introducing new male characters every episode; let’s just hope they stay as awesome as Raichi and Johnny Bepp.
This week’s note: Takoyaki is a traditional Japanese food, otherwise known as “octopus balls”. Originating in Osaka, these balls of batter filled with bits of octopus are cooked in a special pan, and young people in Japan often have takoyaki parties where they make all sorts of creations, a lot not even including the vital ingredient of octopus.
Right, so now that I see there’s a need for it, I’ve tried out a certain uploading site to try and bring Aikatsu! to those of you who can’t use torrents. XDCC bots cost money, so for now we’re looking for good free options. If you have any opinions then please say so in the comments or check out the irc channel.
Alright, and on to episode 3! Aoi gets to be Mizuki-chan’s temp manager; what sort of work awaits her? Starting this episode we’ve got a new team member, and another week of experience helping us to get you the best quality episode we can. Of course, you just can’t sub without issues, so despite the fact that we’re finished Monday night, this’ll most likely be posted sometime on Tuesday. Sorry for the delay, and from now on depending on outside circumstances you may be seeing early releases some weeks.
This weeks translator note: At about 10 minutes in you’ll see a person saying “persu tecu”. This comes from バイヤー イイカワ (baiya iikawa), in other words ヤバイかわいい (yabai kawaii), which you might recognize as what we had as “super cute”. It’s a bit easier to do this in Japanese, due to how the syllabary works.
Alright, we made it to episode 2! Ichigo and Aoi finally make it to Starlight Academy, but they face a new challenge already?! And what, there’s going to be more males than just Ichigo’s little brother? Well, you’ll just have to watch and find out for yourself. And as promised, here’s version two of episode 1 as well.
Edit: Haha, you know what’s funny? As a new group, I’d say that we’re expected to make some mistakes, but our most recent one in regards to muxing was rather embarrassing. If you were seeing ugly fonts or having issues, then get the newest versions of each. If not, then there were no changes to the script, so don’t worry. Also, the patch for episode 01v2 only works if you have all the fonts already, so we suggest downloading v3 if they didn’t work originally. Sorry for the inconvenience.
